The 2017 Global Read Aloud book, A Long Walk to Water, inspired the fifth-grade class to explore and take action which turned into a school-wide service learning project. Through a very organic process, the students wanted to learn more about clean drinking water shortages in third world countries, what it would feel like to carry jugs a water on long walks, and eventually what they could do to help. As a culminating experience, Salva Dut and Sebastian Maroundit visited our campus to discuss the book and the students presented them with $15,000 to build water wells and schools in South Sudan. |
